FSS Management had a round table discussion with the Student Union Executives on proposed tuition fee

The Student Union Government executives led by Comrade Jc. Okoroafor Matthew (a.k.a Snipz, e go be master) had a round table discussion with the school management yesterday, the 17th day of march, 2017. 

The meeting which took place at the Rector's conference hall had in attendance, The Acting Rector- Surv. J.O Omilabu, The Bursar (Mr. Adediran), The Registrar (Mr. Adesokan), The Dean of Student Affairs (Surv. Effiong), The Student Affairs Officer (Mr. Oyedele Kola), The Librarian (Mr. Oriowo), All head of departments, Representatives from the APDS and the Student Union Executives.

The management after the 3hrs long dialogue on the proposed tuition fee expressed their concern towards the grief of the students and promised to effect changes on the proposed fees. On this note, all hands should be on deck as we wait to receive positive response from the management as promised.

The President congratulated all admitted students and welcomes all back to campus after the 48days strike action and employed the finalists to stand courageous as they liaise with their various supervisors for a swift endorsement before the commencement of the project defense.

He also encourage the freshers' to start preparing for resumption as the green light will soon be seen and promised to keep them updated on the happenings within the school.

FSS calls on finalist to obtain clearance

The ASUP Chairman in person of Surv. Adebwale SBN Arewa took to his Social media page in the early hours of today the 16th of March, 2017 to appreciate staff and members of the Union on behalf of Executive members of JAC FSS Oyo for the Success, cooperation, Unity and maturity displayed during the just Suspended Strike, and prayed for God's blessings over all.

Meanwhile, the Head of Department, surveying and Geoinformatics, Surv. Felix Iyiola calls on all the graduating students (ND II and HND II) to liaise with their supervisors as from today 16th March 2017 to obtain clearance for her project defense whose date will be published soonest.

All finalist are employed to treat this message with a matter of Urgency.

BREAKING: FSS Union's suspends strike action

The various staff unions of the Prestigious Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, "...first of its kind in Africa" have suspended their 43days old strike after a congress held today Wednesday, 15th March, 2017 as against the previous notification published on the 30th of January, 2017 by the management which read thus;

"IMPORTANT!

This is to inform both the fresh and returning students of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo that the resumption date for the 2016/2017 academic session slated for Monday 30th January 2017 has been postponed indefinitely.

New date shall be communicated to you later.

The following conversation ensued between a Lecturer and our correspondence;

Correspondence: Sir! what was the conclusion of the just concluded congress?
Lecturer: "The strike is suspended and work resumes tomorrow 16-03-2017."

Correspondence: Sir, is the suspension temporal? And as the agreement been met and all promises and outstanding debts fulfilled?

  

Lecturer: That's the language of unionism, strikes are suspended when demands are not fully met. It may be 1day or 10years.

Correspondence: OK. Sir, we will be anticipating a memo from the school management to this effect as well as the calendar for the new session?

The terms of the suspension as not been known as at the time this information is being published. 


The Welfare Director standing in for the President of the Student Union Government SUG in person of Com. Ojoye Olukayode Emmanuel in His statement sends warm regards from the staple of the SUG secretariat and welcomed all students back to school and admonished the project students to resume back in earnest and added that the resumption of the freshers as well as the students in their final year we follow the project defense as all students are expected to comply with this directive by the school management. 

He went further to assure all students that the students union government is in present negotiations with the management of the school concerning the sudden increment in school fees and pleaded that all students should not be in a haste in making payments until a memo stating otherwise from the SUG is published.

 DEPARTMENT OF SURVEYING AND GEOINFORMATICS

Surveying and Geoinformatics Department has put in place the following academic programmes:

National Diploma (ND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics. (4 Semesters)

Higher National Diploma (HND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (4 Semesters)

Pre-Post Graduate Diploma (PPGD) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (2 Semesters)

Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (3 Semesters)

Admisssion Requirements

The following are list of available courses in Federal School of Surveying, Oyo  and their respective requirements.

• Nationa Diploma (ND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (4 Semesters)

Candidates must have five credits in English Language, Mathematics and Physics and any two of the following subjects:

1. Additional Mathematics or Statistics
2. Land Surveying
3. Technical Drawing or Fine Art
4. Chemistry
5. Geography
6. Economics or Government
7. Biology or Agricultural Science

In addition to the above the student must pass UTME in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other subject from the above list and Post UTME examination.

• National Diploma (HND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (4 Semesters)

Candidates must possess National Diploma (ND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (or Land Surveying) at minimum of Lower Credit and evidence of one year post ND Industrial Attachment experience. In addition, candidates must have requisite entry qualification for the National Diploma (ND) programme. Candidates with ordinary pass at ND level must have at least two (2) years post ND experience

• Pre-Postgraduate Diploma (PPD) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (2 Semesters)

Candidates must possess first degree (with Honours) with at least Second Class Lower Division in subjects cognate to surveying, such as Mathematics, Physics, Geography with Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Geology, Geophysics and Urban and Regional Planning. Candidates must possess basic entry requirement for National Diploma (ND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics which must include Credit Pass in English Language, Mathematics and Physics. In addition, candidates must be computer literate plus evidence of National Youth Service or Exemption Certificate.

• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (3 Semesters)

Candidates must possess Higher National Diploma (HND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics (or Land Surveying) with a minimum of Upper Credit. In addition, there must be evidence of National Youth Service or Exemption Certificate and Computer literacy. Successful candidates of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo Pre-Postgraduatel Diploma programme are also qualified.

• Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Geographical Information System (GIS) (12 Calendar Months)

Candidate must possess good honours degree or HND in the fields of sciences, Engineering and Business Management and in courses such as Surveying, Geography, Physics, Computer Science, Town Planning, Estate Management, Geology, Civil Engineering, Statistics, Forestry, Cartography, Architecture, Educational Management, Business Administration and Marketing. In addition, there must be evidence of National Youth Service or Exemption Certificate and evidence of computer literacy.

The programmes are to produce technicians, technologists and professionals in the field of Surveying and Geoinformatics for the national economy and this is in line with the mission statement and objectives of the school

...students are truly the richest! Isn't it true?

Many at times, students have been grouped among the highly rich individuals because of their status as students even when some of them are the ones personally taking care of themselves. But again, who knows?

l have had series of encounters where l would go to the campus market to buy some stuffs and my bargaining power will be met with "na students get money pass" whenever l tried to beat the price of the commodity to favour me. And again, l would look at myself and ask the rhetoric question, "how will l have money as a student more than those who are full time traders?" but over and over again, it will be left unanswered. Who cares anyway, it was just a rhetoric question, no answer needed.

It is true that many student show off affluence whenever they are in campus. Some borrow, others are lucky enough either to have wealthy parents, uncles or sponsors and some have a way of double taxing their parents and also their elder siblings or uncles to raise extra cash for the same purpose which they have also collected cash from their parents. When they come to campus, they show off and make people believe students are wealthier than them.

A lot of student can relate to this fact and how true can it be? Will you say it is true that as a student you are richer than the traders who see you as such or those lecturers who use the phrase to make you pay more for their textbooks and/or handouts?
